Biodegradable Plastic Mulch at Crossroad Farm Last year, 2007, was our first time using this new innovation. It's a mulch film produced from an organic raw material derived from corn starch. It works like regular black plastic during the season, minimizing weeds, regulating moisture and providing extra warmth to the roots. At the end of the season, it gets tilled into the soil, where microorganisms help it decompose and become a natural fertilizer. Our experience was very successful with it last year. "We just chewed it right up at the end of the season," says Tim. We'll be using the biodegradable mulch film again this year. Click for more information.
